6-8 PMWhole Music Club, Coffman Memorial Union, UofM

Come join the Creative City Road Map team for poetry circles and explorations of our shared creative Minneapolis.

'The Blacker The Berry ...' "I grew up hearing that expression. And I know a lot of brown women in the United States have too," says Shá Cage, project curator. This powerful multidisciplinary performance and companion visual art exhibit at Intermedia Arts features performance and visual artwork by over 50 women of color.
"The phrase 'The Blacker the Berry...' creates a cultural focal point for us to explore existing social meanings of the metaphor's negative and positive inferences, cultural images and associations. "When women begin to share places of connectivity, they break through isolation to discover healing, nurturing, networking, and critical sharing." That is The Blacker The Berry.

Wednesday's event is presented by The department of Gender, Women, Sexuality Studies and African American Studies in partnership with SHE, a student group for women of color on campus.  Women from the Blacker the Berry performance will presented a Pop Up Performance that will serve as a point of departure for the discussion around 'The Decolonized Brown Body.'  The discussion will be interactive and facilitated. There will also be early event 'City Road Map' engagement around the role of arts & economy in Minneapolis.

The event is free and open to the public.

8 PM - midnightIcehouse, 2528 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55404

Please join us for a FREE concert at the Icehouse November 19th entitled Stay Awake: Building Power Post election. The goal of the night is to celebrate all of the hard work from hundreds of volunteers, organizers and everyday leaders to build power for Racial and Economic justice in Minnesota while talking about how we stay awake aware and engaged for the long haul.

Through The Wellstone Organizing Fellows Program, Minnesota Voices, and We Vote MN, leaders in communities of color have been working tirelessly to register, inform and mobilize community members to use the polls to make their voices heard; and now that the dust has settled after the elections we know that our real work is just beginning. On November 19th we will be sharing good music, food, drink and joy to re-charge for the road ahead, please join us!  With a  powerhouse line up of Greg Grease, Maria Isa, The Lioness and Muja Messiah and DJ’s Toda and King Otto on the wheels this is sure to be a night to remember.

Please spread this message far and wide. We want to show our power to ourselves.
